Executive Stress

چکیده
I HOPE that the first point I want to make about executive stress has also been made, equally emphatically. by my colleagues who are also contributing to this issue. It is, of course, that "executive stress" is no different from maternal stress, geriatric stress, boilermakers' stress, and so on. Because we live in an age of classification we are happy when we can tie a label on to something and, having done this and filed it away, we tend to think that we can happily leave it there. Stress is now a fashionable word, and we have convinced ourselves that we are, all of us, living in stressful times. Maybe we are, but this does not absolve us from the responsibility of doing something about it.

Cognitive reserve and self-efficacy as moderators of the relationship between stress exposure and executive functioning among spousal dementia caregivers.
BACKGROUND A substantial literature has reported that stress negatively impacts on cognitive processes. As dementia caregiving can be stressful, it has been hypothesized that the challenges of dementia care may increase caregivers' own vulnerability to cognitive decline. Prefrontal processes are thought to be most vulnerable to stress; however, few studies have examined whether greater caregive...
متن کاملBetter executive function under stress mitigates the effects of recent life stress exposure on health in young adults.
Executive function is a neuropsychological construct that enables controlled cognitive processing, which has been hypothesized to enhance individuals' resilience to stress. However, little empirical work has directly examined how executive function under different conditions mitigates the negative effects of stress exposure on health. To address this issue, we recruited 110 healthy young adults...
متن کاملParadoxical effects of stress and an executive task on decisions under risk.
In everyday life, decisions are often made under stress and while being occupied with multiple tasks. It has recently been shown that acute stress impairs decision making under risk. Performing a parallel executive task also caused riskier decision making. To investigate the effects of a combination of these two factors on decision making, we conducted a large (N = 126) experimental study with ...

متن کاملEffects of Acute Laboratory Stress on Executive Functions
Recent research indicates that stress can affect executive functioning. However, previous results are mixed with respect to the direction and size of effects, especially when considering different subcomponents of executive functions. The current study systematically investigates the effects of stress on the five components of executive functions proposed by Smith and Jonides (1999): attention ...
